Saturday night, and Dean is on his third night shift since we have returned from the city. Monday and Tuesday were spent moving the rest of the contents out of our condo into Mom and Dad's basement. The new owners take possession on the 28th. It was a little sad thinking that we have spent most of our life 'together' there in that little condo since we have been married. Even though we were happy to sell it and think of moving into a bigger place, there are still good memories left behind.

Wednesday eve we returned up north and had supper at our place with the workers! We are so happy to have them here... only two more gsp mtgs left for their mission up north here as far as we know.

This was Friday morning, after I had picked up Dean from his night shift at 7:30 am. Desperate to go fishing, here he is in his scrubs!

Friday afternoon, after Dean got his 'nights' rest, we decided to go for a little hike. Matt and Jeannie suggested this little spot. It has interpretive trails, beautiful scenery and a lake to fish out of too!

A neat little trickling stream.... love that sound in nature!


We probably saw about two different sized, shaped and coloured mushrooms on this little hike too!


lots of different terrain on this hike, moss, rock, grass, muskeg, etc. Here is pic of a huge rock in the middle of the path.

And it we couldn't call it a day if we didn't at least attempt to fish again. There was a sweet little rock ledge here at N. Lake, but still no fish!

Furthest North we have been...

On Dean's second day off, we randomly decided to take a road trip. So into the car we went and started driving north of La Ronge. Once on the road, we saw the signs for Stanley Mission. We had read a little bit about this place, and it has a really old church...

Here is a copy of some of its history:

"From 1850 to 1856 a beautiful Anglican Church was built on the northern bank. It was constructed by local residents, and overseen by the Rev. Robert Hunt. Whipsaws were used to cut lumber for the church from local logs. Windows and hardwood were brought by boat from England via Hudson Bay. The church is now a provincial historic park and is used by Stanley Mission residents and visited by tourists. It is recognized as the oldest building in Saskatchewan. "



It had just rained too after we got there, so you may be able to see a very faint rainbow just behind the church..

After coming back from Stanley Mission, we went a little further north on the main highway there, and came to Little Deer Lake... a primer opportunity to do some fishing before it rained! Unfortunately no bites this time!

The place we call home....

Some of you have requested a peek at where we are living for these three months up north... so here it is... pretty much a virtual tour for you. This is considered a bachelor's suite. And yes, it is in an Electrician's Shop!!!

We had no idea what we were going into, other than we were provided this place for FREE for two months from the health region up here. The last month, we will have to pay for ourselves.

It came fully furnished... I have added a few things of our own, such as the computer and the plants, etc.

There are two other suites in this building. So far so good!!!

Tru North Strong and Free!!!

As of Sept 9, we have become Northerners! We are settling into Air Ronge, and La Ronge area for approx 3 months. Here are some pics in the last week or so.

Lac La Ronge, a lake of many many islands!!!

The hospital in La Ronge that Dean is doing his first practicum in for the three months we are here. His last practicum is a community practicum so he won't be confined to working in the hospital, it will be working with the schools, etc.

On Dean's first day off after 4 - 12 hour day shifts, he couldn't wait to go and pick blueberries. After a little drive into the bush, it wasn't long that we found them almost every where we could see. We also found a few cranberries in amongst them too!!
