Halloween Night... warning some of these pics might be too graphic for some...

Yes, can't say that I would have thought we would be practicing suturing on Halloween, but you never know being with two nurses I guess!!

Jeannie is now a nurse practitioner and one of their duties as an N.P. that R.N.'s don't do is suturing. So she wanted to teach Dean how suture... some of them are pretty gruesome... these are pig hocks that they are practicing on.

QUACK!!!You may have already noticed, but some didn't. HAHAHHA. Dean is hiding under that brown sheet in the corner and got a good kick out of scaring the beejeebies out of many.... one being a member of the Coe's, but won't mention any names. :)


This is Brooklyn. She lived in St. Walburg where the Coe's were previous to their current location. She babysat the kids and decided to move here when they moved. She is now managing one of the local restaurants in town.

This is Shaughnessy Coe and Mickaela (sorry I think I totally butchered the spelling of her name) She is a great great niece of Tom Young's. Her and her daddy have been to a couple bible studies at the Coe's. They are a great pair to get to know. We look forward to spending some more time with them before we leave town.

Trip to visit our friends who were considered 'Northern' and are now our 'Southern' friends

A week ago, we decided last minute to make a trip to Prince Albert. I was really feeling like I wanted to get away and have a change of atmosphere. Not that LA is bad or anything, just feeling like we needed to do something different.

So we went to visit Lisa and Andrew. We totally click with these two and their sweet little family. We have really enjoyed getting to know them better over the last couple of years. Dean and Andrew are 6 months apart and Lisa and I are only two years apart. We have spent several nights up chatting on into the early mornings, days shopping, playing games.... working at the shop, etc.

Here are some pics of last weekend... Kiera is the youngest, and she had fun 'washing the apples' just like Uncle Dean showed her. (rubbing it on your shirt underneath your armpits)





Brydon and Bria started taking violin lessons this year. Kiera feels left out when they practice so she picks up Brydon's children size guitar and mounts it up on her shoulder like a 'biolin'

Never thought I would do this.... maybe he didn't either

Today Dean gave me my Flu Shot and the H1N1 vaccine. I never thought I would let him actually give me a needle before.... but here is proof that he just did!!! He is going to be an excellent nurse. My arms don't even hurt (I was fully expecting them to). I am going to volunteer and go out to some of the clinics they are doing to get everyone their H1N1 vaccines in town here and some surrounding areas even it sounds like. I got to get mine today simply because I am going to volunteer... otherwise, the general population vaccines for H1H1 don't start until next week.

Dean strongly recommends you get a vaccine. He is actually writing his next paper on this issue of the media blowing things out of proportion and now people are scared to get the vaccine! This is the question we ask ourselves, would you rather get the vaccine and be prepared? or not be prepared, and face possible death within a matter of days???!!! There is that saying coulda woulda shoulda???!! Will be neat to see what Dean's paper turns out to be like.

What we have to look forward to!

This past weekend, we drove over to Meadow Lake and continued onto Bonnyville. This was my first time seeing Meadow Lake as Dean had already been there. It is a nice sized town... actually, it has just taken CITY status. Amazzzzzzing. Yes, they new the city girl was moving in... so its going to be less of a culture shock if its now considered a city! :)

We travelled over 1200 kms this past weekend. We took a nice little drive through Meadow Lake Provincial Park. It is gorgeous. Can't wait until we can spend some time there in the summer!

Sunday we joined them in Cold Lake for Mtg. B and M Pearman had the whole group over for lunch afterwards in their new home. Here is a pic of George Little and Anita ? They are the two older folks that meet with this group.

Missing our company already.....

We were so lucky to have Mom and Dad Sinc come up this past week. They came on Sunday eve and stayed through until Wednesday am. They did a ton of driving this week.... 6 to K and J's in AB and then another 6 from their place to ours in La Ronge. After all that, another 7.5 home to F.Q. Thats a lot of driving in less than a week... at least in our books :)

Monday, we decided to take them up to Otter Rapids which is on the Churchill River. We took uncle Lloyd up here a few weeks ago... when there wasn't any snow on the ground and a few degress warmer!

It is beautiful to hike in here... and fish. Even though we proved yet AGAIN that we don't think there is any fish left in the North! ugh. Sorry for the disappointment mom and dad :(

This pic doesn't really do it justice.... but some of those rapids are quite high, it would be quite a ride on a kayak!!! If I figure out how to do it, I will try to post a video of the rapids from when we were there with Uncle Lloyd.

Where's Waldo??????

Had to take a pic of this... the one on the right is Dad's fishing tackle... it used to be his dad's fishing tackle. Grandpa Sinc has been gone now for 20 years. Love the Laura Secord Box in there too. lol.... ;)

This is a pic on the way back from Otter Rapids. Missinipe is approx 80 kms from La Ronge.

On this same road trip, we took them to see the oldest building in Saskatchewan, the church at Stanley Mission. Didn't get to go in side, as it is only accessible by boat.

Here is a pic from the hotel window. We booked mom and dad in at the Harbour Inn as we don't have any place for company to stay in our 400 sq ft bachelor suite! They wanted us to come and stay with them, so we got a little suite looking out onto Lac La Ronge. Right outside our room was a float plane. We didn't get to see him take off as he was taking his sweet time packing up the plane, etc. and we wanted to get on with our day.


This is a pic of the only fur trading post left in La Ronge. At one time, there used to be 4 right here in La Ronge. This store is called Roberston Trading Post. The man you see with Dean and Mom in this pic is Scott. He now owns the store. He Dad used to run it. So this is a family business being passed on through the generations. Scott knows cree and speaks with many of his customers/suppliers with it as some of them only know cree here. The fur trading business is a dying business. Scott says especially the way the economy is now, a fur will average only 12.00 a fur, and it COSTS him 55 per fur to tan it. He also informed us that when he was a boy, they virtually lived in every little town and community along the Churchill River. There is a TON of taxidermy in this store, old animal traps, birch bark art (a full size canoe out of birch bark as well as a toboggan) If you ever get the chance to come to La Ronge, this is definitely a place worth visiting!

Tuesday was a beautiful day outside, so it was perfect to go on another little hike. So this is where we found ourselves, at Nemeiben again!! Its a beautiful little spot and an easy easy hike.

And yes, they are still out boating even with the snow. In fact, looks like this couple plans to fish, and canoe at the same time????

There is a little creek flowing through this trail.... it had very unique looking icicles forming in it...

Tuesday Night we had supper with Jeannie and Jayden. The other three were away. We are so glad to have great friends like these up here in the North! They welcomed us with warmth and open arms.
